The 2024 Asia Pacific ICT Alliance Awards (APICTA), hosted this year in Brunei, provided a platform for showcasing cutting-edge technology from across the region. Western Australia was proudly represented by Containers for Change (WARRRL), which participated as a finalist with its innovative Collect app, which won Merit at the 2024 INCITE Awards.
The APICTA Awards bring together the best and brightest from over 16 countries and economies, celebrating technological excellence across diverse sectors.
The INCITE Awards are WA's only entry pathway that can take technology innovators onto national (iAwards) and international (APICTA) awards recognition programs.

Collect is a mobile solution from Containers for Change (WARRRL) which is streamlining the recycling process for WA communities.
The Collect app has transformed the way Western Australians participate in the state’s container deposit scheme. By enabling a seamless click-and-collect experience, the app has made recycling more accessible, efficient, and user-friendly.
Competing in the Sustainability and Environment category, the Collect app stood alongside exceptional innovations from across the Asia Pacific. Although Containers for Change (WARRRL) didn’t secure a win at APICTA, their inclusion as a finalist is a great example of the strength of Western Australia’s innovation ecosystem.
“Containers for Change’s Collect app is a fantastic example of how technology can make sustainability more accessible to everyone,” said Con Polkinghorne, Chair of WAITTA. “Their journey to APICTAs is an incredible milestone and a testament to the caliber of innovation coming out of WA. Congratulations to the WA team, and to all Australian teams who participated in APICTA this year.”
Australia sent several teams to participate in APICTA alongside Containers for Change (WARRRL). The Department for Education, South Australia, secured second runner-up in the Public Sector and Government category with their innovative EdChat AI platform. Meanwhile, Stoktake celebrated a double triumph, taking home trophies in two categories: Winner in the Agriculture Solution category under the Industrial sector and Winner of the prestigious cross-category Start-Up of the Year award.
Congratulations to all Australian participants — Department for Education South Australia, Stoktake, Connectivity Innovation Network, CSIRO, and Containers for Change (WARRRL) — which showcased groundbreaking innovations, and gained valuable insights from presenting to an international judging panel.
